But yeah, I am coming to the same conclusion as you, in the end he say "perhaps I suck I what I do, but at least I am (somewhat) famous". Famous means success, for both characters, the officer recognise that which give a point to Jack in this verbal fight.
Another response, is, what does cool means? I wasn't quite sure what it means for so I googled it:
calmness; composure.
"he recovered his cool and then started laughing at us"
Which is literally what he did, lol. (A non cool answer would have been to insult the officer)
